Our Healthy Hair Perm Creates Long Lasting Curls + Waves , always with the Health of Your Hair in Mind
At Virgo, we use Oway’s Owave Hair Perm technology which uses gentle, high quality ingredients to deliver custom curl and wave patterns that match your unique look and lifestyle. With the health of your hair in mind, we’ll take you from flat and lifeless strands to voluminous and textural locks. What you are left with is hair full of life and endless styling versatility!
Like every ritual developed by Oway, the hair perm experience begins with an analysis of the scalp and lengths, to enable us to determine which fluid is best to use; OWAVE hair perm technology respects the hair fibre and calls for different concentrations and formulations depending on your scalp and hair type. OWAVE is based on complete texture customization, just like the results that can be achieved - all vary depending on the technique used.
Fear of Hair Perm sessions are now a thing of the past making way for a treatment rich in beneficial active ingredients and organic nourishment. Thanks to the pool of biodynamic Helichrysum hydrolat, organic Blackthorn extract and ethical Chia and Flax extracts, the hair fibre is protected and elasticised during the treatment, with long-lasting and resistant hair results.

Can you Perm Highlighted/Balayaged hair?
Due to the more gentle Perm Formula we use, we are able to perm Slightly Highlighted/Balayaged hair. Keep in mind that for Slightly Highlighted/Balayged hair, we have a Mandatory add on in our Booking Menu called “Highlight/Subtle Balayage protection booster”. This service will add an additional layer of protection that subtly lightened hair will need in order to stay healthy during the Perming Process.
That said, if the hair is over 40% lightened, we do not recommend perming until the heavier highlighted parts are grown out and cut off. Heavily highlighted hair is extremely compromised and has a hard time holding on to the curl. This may result in a highly unpredictable perm where parts of the hair may take the curl and others don’t. As we want you to have the best results possible, again, we do not recommend perming heavily highlighted hair.
How do I care for my Hair Perm?
Changing your hair's texture will require a slight change in your haircare. As a result of the change in your texture, you will need to make sure that your hair stays hydrated. We Recommend the Davines Love Curl Enhancing Shampoo and Conditioner

Do perms work for all hair types?
Yes! Depending on your goals, hair perms are a great way to improve or add texture for all hair types, though those with straight or wavy hair textures have the most to gain!
How long will my hair perm last?
Depending on how tight your perm is and how healthy your hair is, your perm can last anywhere from 2-6 months generally. The tighter the perm, generally the longer it will last and all perms relax after some time.
What factors affect how long my perm lasts?
Follow stylist recommendations carefully: First and foremost, you will want to follow the care instructions and product recommendations of your stylist. During your appointment, your stylist will take you step-by-step through how to care for and style your new perm. If you need to, bring notes or a recording device so you can later use it as reference! Remember that we cannot guarantee the health or aesthetics of your perm if you do not follow our salon instructions and use the proper products and techniques on your permed hair.
Down time: Make sure not to get your hair wet or manipulate it in ANY way for 48-72 hours after getting your hair permed. This means no washing, conditioning, or use of styling/care products during this time. Additionally, you must keep your hair down and in as untouched a state as you possibly can. Do not put it in a ponytail/bun, scrunch, pull on, stretch, flip, comb or brush your hair in any way until your hair has fully cured.
Keep your lifestyle in mind: You will also want to think about your daily routine especially if you are a gym bunny or swimmer. Chlorinated water can have disastrous effects on perms and excessive sweating can result in frizz and dry hair
Get your hair cut regularly: As curls grow, they become less pronounced and will start to stretch out. Remember to book a haircut every 3-4 months to keep your perm in tip-top shape as well as help prevent split ends and damage.
Wash your hair less + condition more: Washing your hair too often can strip away natural oils. Research shows that these oils are needed to keep hair healthy. To banish unwanted dryness, cut down your weekly shampoos to 1-2 and up your condition time.
Deep Conditioning: Applying your usual conditioner will only help so much- a product like Oway’s Moisture Hair Mask contains Biodynamic and Organic ingredients such as Hazel, Honey and Murumuru for intense nourishment and moisture. Apply once or twice a week for maximum results!
Throw your brush away: Brushing your perm with a brush will ruin your curl pattern every time. Instead use a wide-tooth comb our your fingers to gently comb damp hair and detangle while in the shower.
Change your sleeping habits: Perms can often look unkempt first thing in the morning. Either wrap your hair in a silk scarf or rest your head on a silky pillow case to keep hair tangle and frizz free.
Avoid chemical treatment: Wait at least a month and a half after your perm before applying any further chemicals to your hair
What type of products should I use to style my perm?
Curly hair, whether permed or natural, requires the right styling products and techniques in order to achieve your desired results. Please note that we are only able to guarantee the health and look of your healthy perm if you follow our home care routine which include styling products geared toward your specific needs.
In general, you will want to start with a lightweight curl enhancing shampoo and conditioner. In additon, we may recommend products such as leave-in conditioners, lightweight gels, mooses, sea salt sprays and volumizers - all custom chosen to give you the look you’re after.
How long should I wait to shampoo or manipulate my hair after getting a perm?
We recommend waiting 48-72 hours before manipulating your hair in any way, this includes using products, shampooing, scrunching, putting hair in a bun or pony tail. Your hair should remain in as unaltered a state as possible so that your new curls can cure as close to your desired curl as possible. After the 48-72 hours, feel free to wash and condition your hair, style it and use recommended products.
What do I need to do to prepare for my Healthy Perm?
A week or so before your perm, make sure you avoid scratching your head or heavily brushing your hair. Any type of scalp stimulation can cause irritation. Also, be sure to do a deep conditioning treatment a day before. We offer deep conditioning treatments at our salon that you can find on our booking page. There is no need to shampoo your hair right before your treatment as that is the first thing your stylist will do when you come in.
How about after my perm?
Again, you will want to allow 48-72 hours to pass before shampooing, using styling products, or otherwise manipulating your hair. Once your hair settles, you may want to come in for a layered curly cut which will help promote curl development making your hair bouncier and improving volume. You will want to carefully follow the care and styling instructions given to your by your stylist and use recommended products which will help prolong your curl. All perms start to relax after a few months and will become gradually less curly. Depending on the tightness of your curl so you may want to get it touched up every 2-6 months if you are looking to maintain your style.
How much are Healthy Perms and how long do they take?
The Price and length of your service is dependent upon your hair length, texture, density and desired style. It is always recommend to come in for an in-person or phone consultation before booking your perm if you are new to the process- we will be able to give you a definitive quote based on our discussion. Our loose perms on short, normal density hair start at $265 and take about 2.5 hours. Perms will go up in price and time from there depending on the factors mentioned above.
What is the difference between Modern, Healthy Hair Perms and hair perms from the 80's?
Modern, Healthy hair perms are much softer on your hair than perms of the past. While women were looking for bold, voluminous shapes in the 80's, today, most women are looking for more natural results and our modern hair perm is formulated with that in mind. At Virgo, we customize customers rod set to match your hair goals and stay completely in control of the process.
